Help with word choice
  • blancblanc August 2010

I'm working on a creative project (which I'd be happy to share when its finished!) and I'd like some input on my word choice at the moment.

Its an animation project and I'm visually presenting images of cleanliness, simplicity, traditional Japanese style, and contemporary Japanese style. By style I mean the aesthetic of buildings and the design elements in animation, graphic design, product design, so on and so forth. I want to have accompanying words for each section.

right now I was planning on using
    清浄 - せいじょう - cleanliness
    単純 - たんじゅん - simplicity
和様 - わよう - traditional Japanese style
近代的 - きんだいてき - modern (style?)

I've done a handful of projects in Japanese, but when consulting with expert speakers, half of my wording usually changes. typically because what I've come up with just sounds "weird" or "the Japanese would never say it like that" - so I thought I'd get your opinion!

What about 清潔, 伝統 and モダン?
