「けっこうド」?
  • MirukufyMirukufy June 2010

    I was doing translation practice when I came across this phrase:「けっこうド」. I tried searching on Google but there weren't any translations. (Btw, it's most used with 'S' and 'M' -coughcough- as in「けっこうドS」, but I don't really get what ド has to do with the phrase...) ^^"

    Any ideas?

    結構 (けっこう), as for the ドS, need context.

    The full sentence is けっこうドMな面もある.

    けっこうドMな面もある
    "He also has quite the masochistic side".

    ド is connected to the M and the S, not けっこう.

    ドS = sadist
    ドM = masochist

    The ド is an intensifier, like in ドすけべ, it makes the word after it stronger in meaning.

    Ohhh, I see. I learned something new, thank you. (:

    Oh, and one more question. There are numerous intensifiers out there, so is ド the derogatory kind like it says in the dictionary entry?

    Hmm probably yes. I've never heard it in a positive fashion (though most Japanese "negative" things can be positive in certain situations).
