のど, かわい

    Hello. I'm currently learning japanese with Rosetta Stone (I just started). There is no translation, just sentences with pictures to understand what it means, but I don't get this. It's written without any kanji:

    のどがかわいていますか。

    The person saying this suggests food/water to others. What does that mean ? I couldn't find anything in the dictionary.

    Thanks.

    Literally, it means "is your throat dry?" and is how you ask "are you thirsty?" in Japanese.

    のど = throat
    が = subject marker
    かわいています = polite continuous form of かわく (乾く, "to dry")
    か = question marker
