I'm trying to figure out the pronunciation for the last kanji in: 透明化. I know that the first two add up to とうめい, transparency. And I know that the last kanji should be か or け and means "to change". It's just, I've seen the kanji 化 tacked on to the end of a variety of other things, but it doesn't really make sense to me since ka and ke are not words in themselves. Is it just a kanji you can tack on to say that something can be changed? Is it still pronounced "ka," or "ke," ?
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I'm new to learning japanese and am teaching myself through the use of a kanji dictionary and japanese to english dictionary (As well as various online resources for grammar). -
This is pronounced か. Most of the time, 化 as a suffix is "ka" rather than "ke".
