Writing a card
  • I learn Japanese at my leisure and recently made a Japanese friend who is an exchange student in my university but will be leaving for Japan in the next couple of days, so I wanted to write her a card as a gratitude of our friendship. This is what I have came up with so far:

    あなたにお会いできてよかったで お便りを楽しみに期待しています

I also bought her a souvenir but not sure if this phrase is used correctly -
    つまらないものですが, 気にいってくれるといいのですが

    Any suggestions/corrections would be appreciated,
  • I guess it depends what you want to say. I don't like rewriting people's stuff (also it takes me forever to figure out what I want to say), so I'll just make a couple of comments on the first sentence, and leave the rest to other people:
you might want to use 楽しい (adj. not adv.) instead of 楽しく
すごすことできます is the present tense, できました is the past tense, though I don't see a reason to use the potential form, so you could just say
過ごしました or 過ごしまたね, to add some nuance.

P.S. I'm pretty impressed with your Japanese for just learning casually.

P.P.S. As for your souvenir sentence, I probably wouldn't say those two things together---which might just be me---but if you want to, you might consider changing
the second part to 気に入ってくれるとうれしいです。(It would make me happy if you like it.)

Howdy, Stranger!
