Question about invitations (what's the difference between...)
  • patacabbitpatacabbit August 2009

Is there a difference between "a verb present negative + か" and "verb + ましょう"?

    For example,
    わたしたち たべませんか

    わたしたち たべましょう

    Thanks in advance.

I think the difference is the same as between

    Eh let's grab a bite!

Shouldn't we take something to eat?

So you saying one's more a question whereas the other is implied that we're going to eat?

Or one's more polite and the other is more casual?

Oh I wrote in the same order. The feeling I get is that たべましょう is a tad more casual but that the two expressions are as good as synonyms.

Howdy, Stranger!
