Arishima Takeo's language

Hello Everyone- I've started using denshijisho couple of days ago, and this looks like a nice site to ask my question.

Below is the end of the 1st chapter of "Aru onna". I have a problem with understanding 2nd sentence. What exactly did Yoko do to make Kibe regret his former attitude?

    痩せた木部の眼は前と同じに鋭く輝いていた。葉子は正面に向き直るとともに、その男の眸の下で、悒鬱(ゆううつ)な険しい色を引きしめた口のあたりに漲(みなぎ)らした。木部はそれを見て自分の態度を後悔すべきはずである。

I will appreciate Your help :)

I believe it means something like the following:
葉子は正面に向き直るとともに As Yoko turned to face forward,
    その男の眸の下で under his eyes,
    悒鬱(ゆううつ)な険しい色を a grim, severe look
引きしめた口のあたりに漲(みなぎ)らした。 came around her strained mouth.

Perhaps a smoother (less literal) translation would give, 'As Yuko turned to face him, there was a severe look around her strained mouth.

    Notes:
1: 眸 is translated as 'pupil' on Denshi Jisho (if you look at the kanji section), with the pronunciation 'ひとみ' but I believe here it is 'eye' or 'め'.
2: In my translation I've used a passive, but 漲らす is actually an active verb.

Thanks a lot, I thought it would be something like that, only instead of 色 I'd rather have some 眼差し... (then of course 口のあたりwouldn't work)
Always the same problems with subject.
And BTW according to provided okurigana 眸 is pronounced here as ひとみ.

In most older literature they always refer to a woman's pupils rather than their eyes - by my experience XD - Sounds odd in English if I'm translating though so half the time it ends up as "eye".

Why are you reading 'Aru Onna' by the way? Do you read a lot of Japanese books?

I' trying to read a lot :) I need it for my research, writing an article on the status of the woman in 20c. jap lit - and this is a really interesting picture
