Everybody knows that Japan is a big Martial Arts nation. I, myself, am a fan of MMA. So, I was just wondering if anybody else here practices any type of martial art?

Personally, I practice Savate and Muay Thai everyday, and have been for the past 4 years. It is one of the main aspects of my life. I wake up every morning and practice in a field right by my house. It is good exercise. Then in the afternoons, I practice with my Uncle who is a former fighter and soldier in the Marines. We do a lot of sparring. That is where I learn most of my technique from.

This should be an interesting topic. That is, if anyone else here practices any martial arts. ^.^

I did: judo, kendo, gong fu, tai chi, capoeira.

Wow, that is quite a list. I am interested in Judo. The thing is, I am trying to perfect what I already know and it is hard to switch styles. I figure if I focus all my attention on two similiar styles, I will benefit more from that.

I think I enjoyed kendo and capoeira the most, next to tai chi. The only problem I have with kendo is that it is, like with many Japanese things, too mired down to the rules. In a real battle your opponent will pull many more interesting tricks out of his arsenal rather than what's practised with kendo. In that aspect capoeira is actually very interesting, due to the constant dynamics of not-touching you have to pay constant attention to your opponent. But people might find the ginga, the basic fundamental movement, a needless waste of energy. Then again, if it is countering threats quickly and without a waste of energy I guess martial arts like krav maga will rank highest. Mmm, perhaps bujinkan budo taijutsu would also rank high like that.

Yes, I am a bluntly honest type.

Yeah, what I like about Muay Thai is that a lot of it is free-form. It doesn't really have too many rules, besides stances and basic techniques, but those are really just like guidelines. Muay Thai fighting mostly revolves around how fast you can K.O. the opponent with a strong offense and defense. Isn't that what every fighting style should consist of?

Another style I enjoy a lot is Jeet Kune Do. Again, another free-form art. It feels great when practicing Jee Kune Do because there are no strings attached. It's shapeless, like water. I guess that is what you can appreciate about Capoeira, asmodai. You just kind of go with the flow.
