Addressing Friends' Parents
  • How do I do this? With their younger siblings, I can just use given name, elder siblings can be addressed by given name + suffix (such as san). Usually, they are all cool about it.

How do I address my friends' parents, though? I do not want to sound too formal as they are friendly people who are kind to me. I do not want to address them by their name because they are 目上. Any ideas on friendly formalities?
  • Simply, their family|given names + さん, when speaking to both you may use お母さん or お父さん instead.
  • Thanks!
