One small suggestion!

Say you're looking up a word, and you don't spell it right, or it's not correct, or it's simply not in the [general] dictionary, though it's nice it then tries the names and places dictionary, but then it also defaults to that for future searches.

So trying again becomes a pain in the arse. Especially with Japanese, where the slight off-vowel of the word means the wrong guess, it's kind of a pain, taking your hands of the keyboard, switching over to general dictionary again, typing again.

99% of the time most would agree the general dictionary is what they're using. I wonder if there's any easy way to tweak this.

The easy way to tweak this would be to show the results from names and places, but leave the default at general dictionary searches.

I think this would be a good change.

I agree. I've been caught out by this odd behavior too. It shouldn't change the default unless explicitly asked to.

Agreed, that is a bit silly. I just changed it to not switch the actual dictionary in this case.

Sweet! I recently noticed the difference! As always, by far this is the most rockage japanese dictionary. Much love & thanks Kim!
